An annotated illustration of the Willamette River basin, this piece illuminates the physical characteristics of the region that cradles Oregon’s largest native river.
Additionally, I bring to the foreground the hydrography, landforms, and landcover, elements that traditionally form a map’s background. Human settlement, transportation, and nomenclature, elements that traditionally form a maps foreground play only supporting roles behind the tapestry of non-human geography. The result is an illustration that reflects geography’s organic structure and beauty in similar fashion that a botanical illustration would reflect the structure and beauty of a wildflower.
